Something changed here.
Or, rather, something changed out there.
My first web page was put together sometime in 1994. Back then, the
World Wide Web was a medium of free information exchange. The first version of
this home page was written back then, and was fairly detailed. Age, hobbies, interests, on and on.
Over the years, I've kept that detail in there. Even as the World Wide Web
changed from an inspirational idea to merely another tool of communication
to be used by both black hats and white hats, I still kept this site mostly
intact.
But, eventually, change wins. Reality wins. In this case, it was the
growing number of people who used the information on the Web for their
own purposes. Instead of using the information to connect with others,
they used it to use others.
You can still figure out a lot about me from the web -- but, I've
had to make it just a little harder.
And so, this now is all I will say about myself here:
In the past, I've conducted an orchestra, flown the space shuttle,
done a head-on pass in an F-18 at Mach 1.5, defended Western Europe
from a Warsaw Pact invasion, gone head to head with a Barghest, was almost
shot by an East German Border Guard, defended the soverignty of the Earth
Alliance aboard the heavy cruiser EA Silverberg, conquered feudal Japan,
assembled over a hundred miniatures, had my hands on the controls of a 747,
laid down the perfect slapshot, thrown the perfect dart, played the perfect
song, and baked the perfect cheesecake.
I'm a cynic, a dreamer, an actor, a poet, a musician, a programmer,
an advisor, a friend, a ten year old boy and a sixty year old
man. I look in the mirror, and I wonder how it will all turn out.
A friend of mine has labeled me that
horror of horrors, a hopeful romantic. But whatever I am, I'm still here,
though only God knows why. Thus, most importantly,
I'm a survivor. TBFTGOGGI.
I will leave this for your consideration:
Excerpt from Ulysses, by Alfred Lord Tennyson
...Come, my friends
'T is not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,--
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
